    Runfly fishing glossary

A section of river deeper than a riffle but shallower than a pool, with moderate current.

Runs are the sweet spot between riffles and pools. They have enough depth to hold larger fish and enough current to deliver food consistently. Many of the biggest trout in a river live in runs.

    How to Fish Runs

    • Start at the tail and work upstream
    • Cover the water systematically with nymphs
    • Watch for rising fish along the seams
    • Don't ignore the edges — fish often hold tight to banks
